Research

This project is motivated by young people’s personal idealized realities. It takes inspiration from daydreams that are caused by aspirations or passions for certain hobbies or interests. This project is supposed to explore a young person’s perfect fantasy world untouched by cynicism and personal doubt. Specifically I would like to focus on my friend’s passion for figure skating, a sport that is highly competitive and dependent on perfectionism. I would like to explore a reality through film where my friend’s skating performance is dreamy and playful while also using the art of film and editing to reorganize her performance to create something new.

Some issues that arose from discussing/conceptualizing this idea is its lack of substance or significant meaning.

As a stylistic approach I would like to film this on a sony hi8 handy cam i have access to to give the film a more nostalgic atmosphere. This is inspired by several videos I have explored online of footage people filmed while in their youth. Some that come to mind are personal footage of someone’s last day of high school or just another regular day in their lives as a teenager/young person.
